The first decade of Katie's (she/her) career has been dedicated to supporting immigrants on their path towards legal protection and safety in the United States allowing her to better understand the systems that get in the way of our ability to belong and experience joy. Since then her clinical work in community health centers and hospitals has taught her more tools for how to navigate power dynamics in relationships. Katie is focused on providing a warm and non-judgemental presence to those of us looking to better understand anxiety, depression, trauma, grief and loss, and non traditional family structures, particularly queer folks. In addition, she has experience with chronic illness, family of origin issues, religious trauma, and attachment wounds. Katie's therapeutic approach incorporates how we make meaning, how oppression impacts mental health and how to find ways for you to feel safe, understood, and seen for exactly who you are.

Karen started her career as a clinical social worker 25 years ago, after receiving her MSW from Boston University, initially working with children and teens who had experienced trauma and were in foster or adoptive homes. In 2012-13, she participated in a post-graduate fellowship in infant Mental Health, which provided her with better understanding and clarity about how our early relationships impact our current behavior and relational experiences. Karen has an interest in and experience with supporting women during the perinatal period, particularly when mood and anxiety can become overwhelming, and intergenerational issues may make the transition to motherhood complicated. In addition to her counseling work, Karen is the Director of a program serving pregnant and parenting teens in the Metro Boston area.
Karen has a certificate in cognitive behavioral therapy, which she draws upon in working with new mothers, teens and young adults struggling with life transitions, anxiety, and depression. Mindfulness techniques can also be helpful when we know how and why to integrate it into our lives. But primarily, Karen has found through experience, that it is the ability to be present and sit with the emotions and struggles, being open and accepting, that is the true value of her work.
